WELCOME2DECA

Having no experience of a loved one passing on, co-creating Drifted was exceptionally challenging but this also put me in the position to completely rely on the children to tell me their stories, their feelings and how they grieved and the memories they hold onto.

What struck me from their sharing was their strong bonds to family. And it was a clear reminder for me that no matter the turbulence, family members help each other pull through difficult situations. Just a little hug and support makes everything feel better.

I hope the audience leaves with a little tingle and warmth in their hearts after watching Drifted, as much as it was such an enriching experience for us putting the show together with 3 generations.

Many thanks to our hardworking decaK!Ds for putting your heart and soul into the show! Special thanks to Aunty Cat, Aunty Helen and Aunty Mary for agreeing to perform with the DECA Team. And to the DECA team, thank you for always putting in your 110% in everything you do and for always being a positive light to everyone you interact with! To many more years of shows and adventures! Lastly, our audience, we would not be here without you. Thank you for your endless love and support.

Enjoy the show!
Stephanie Rae Yoong

SYNOPSIS

Drifted explores grief, memory, and celebration, unfurling the different dynamics of loss for all bodies young and old. Taking reference from the book ‘Lost in the Clouds’ by Tom Tinn-Disbury as a starting point, Drifted is devised together with dancers from Decadance Co, our decak!ds young dancers, and seniors from our decasilver elderly community engagement program. This production is perfect for all ages, and will resonate with audiences new or familiar to contemporary dance. Journey through the landscape of life after loss with us, as we explore how emotional bonds are ageless, timeless, and unbound by physical presence.
